My favorite time of year again - hot drinks, cold nipples, and Skater of the Year party. SOTY 2009 was their 20th anniversary of the event as well - They put out this go-big vibe and the ramp and film premier were definitely awesome... but Herbst Pavillion is just super huge so the non-VIP area out front seemed pretty low energy. Everyone in the back was killing it though, this is what it's all about. Part of me feels the intimate GAMH sotys of yesteryear still hold their reign in my cold, black heart... The best thing about this time of year also is that I get to see so much family, drink/hang out all weekend, & not give a shit. Our little mob is a good one. Love you all. Sundays are for recovering, hug/friend withdrawals, and developing all the 120 film.

Oh also I got hit on by a handful of 14-17yr olds. Someone get these kids some better pick up lines, STAT! Shit dudes I am old enough to be your grandma... CHILL!

OK now... Quick & Dirty - which is going to be a lot longer than I intended to make it - Friday after work hit LA with Moose to see my girl Jess & go to DTSD on Saturday. Made it into LA just before last call which of course meant Jess' neighborhood dive bar (yes, literally, it is on the corner of her street) - JUMBO'S CLOWN ROOM. This gnarly lookin dancer that looked like a cross between Adrian (A+D) and Marilyn Manson (aged about +20 years) was a-fucking-mazing. People watching at its finest, LA is always topnotch Douchery.

Saturday rolled around pretty harsh. Between a hangover and a heartache, and fuck add heatstroke in there... I was almost REALLY not feelin' today. Hit up my spot Home over on Riverside Dr for breakfast of course. I've missed parts of LA. There's a lot of fam down here, always so nice to be around. Finally made it over to Paramount  for DTSD. Clockwise from entrance, we had China Banks, Black Label's Drunk Tank/12-Step Program stair thingy, Creature's weird cross-shaped thingy (I'm hearin this was called the Hesh Cross??), and Flip's thingy. Competitions went in the opposite order. I got to catch up with Ryan & Liz which was sooo nice. Love them. Here's actual photos from that shit via Vans. Housed some cheeseburgers. Didn't drop below about 90 degrees until 8 Goddamn PM. Didn't really take pics, was busy talking to people, eating cheeseburgers, and watchin shit get silly.

Sunday AM - like, 3 AM - we headed up to San Jose. The Greek was banned from Thrasher? I guess he wasn't banned from passing out naked at the 619 house. Hit up Bill's for some awesome breakfast and then returned (returned!) a bunch of Tequila. Yes, this gives my fluffy bunny heart a bad case of the . Trucked it over to Lake Such & Such (Valley of Death-Heat) skatepark for some memorial, beer, sun, music, and awesome times. Heat is so gross. I must be getting old? OK I know I have seen Eric's band Whiskey Sunday play before but this was the first time I paid attention. They're rad! Also WTF is up with Duren sitting in the judges row with a clipboard. Beer me already WTFC.

The Documentary screening at Roxie was OFF THE HOOK. Hosting was a lot of work, I am still exhausted but it was AMAZING. I love throwing a good event so I'm just glad the Sailor Jerry Rum team let me help out & be a part of it (AKA not break too much or destroy anything). We were over capacity by 7:45 but I got a few more of the homies in who ran late at their shops tattooing etc.  Thee Oh Sees, as our secret after party band, I have to say actually killed it because the after party-people were feelin' it. Feels so good to see everyone's hard work come together & pull it off at that level, and see so many friends come through and get so much love. Here are the few snapshots I took through the night - I barely had a minute to breathe so I'm surprised I even got a second to take these! Official event photos by AF3 Studio coming soon! One choice quote was Don Ed Hardy telling me at the door, "my wife is coming later. Watch out for that one." Guess you would have had to be there.

AF3 is my brother from another mother so naturally he was my first choice to photograph this event. Naturally, also, that means I made a mess of his guest room to get ready before we hauled ass over to the Roxie.
